Eileen Kiyonaga
Eileen is a multidisciplinary artist that uses predominantly wood, but also watercolour and acrylic to communicate the fluid lines and natural geometries she finds so appealing in nature. Trained in industrial design as well as fine furniture and joinery, Eileen has a sharp eye for details and is always working towards creating a feeling of calm attentivity with her work. She wants her creations to invoke a peaceful, natural sense that draws people into the smaller particulars. Although trained in precision, it’s the softer and perfectly imperfect lines and shapes that occur in nature that come forward in her work. Wood has so many of these qualities inherently, and when teamed with the surprises that sometimes happen along the way, the result is natural beauty that precision alone cannot create.
Based out of Squamish, BC, Eileen finds the ancestral lands of the Squamish and Lil’wat Nations truly awe-inspiring. There is so much to be learned and experienced by respectfully exploring this landscape and learning about its history. The sources of inspiration in this area are endless.
Eileen is a mom of two young daughters and loves witnessing their budding sense of exploration and creativity. This family loves adventuring in the outdoors; surfing, mountain biking, camping, hiking, and exploring the backcountry are all an important part of their lives and what draws them to the Sea to Sky.
